Overthinkers, Open this now:

It's been tough, I know. One thing leads to another and the next thing you know you're falling down a spiral staircase of intrusive thoughts. I've been there. Here are 3 things that have helped me that you need to know.

1) YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS. You are the observer of your thoughts. Those thoughts of anger, Of anxiety, Of grief, sadness, and loneliness. They are not you. They are clouds drifting by on the blank canvas of your mind.

These thoughts are random and mostly the results of external stimulation. We have no control over when they show up. The good news is that you can train your mind, but more on this later. For now, just know that your thoughts don't define you.

2) GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD. When your mind is filling up with these negative thoughts, the last thing you want to do is sit in it until you start to drown. Instead, get out of your head and into your body. Exercise, go for a walk, work on a hobby. Reconnect with the real world.

You'll find that, given enough time, the thoughts will begin to subside on their own. Another bonus to this is how closely connected our mental and physical states are. When your body is feeling good, it signals your mind to reflect the same feelings.

3) TRAIN YOUR MIND. When these thoughts come up, they are largely from your subconscious. The upside here is your subconscious can be trained. How? One of the easiest ways is to pay attention to how you talk to yourself. Do you talk negatively or positively to yourself?

This is severely underestimated. Your subconscious picks up on how you habitually talk to yourself. It then assumes that as the default mode of thinking and goes on autopilot. So consciously thinking in a more positive way can change your default mode over time.

BONUS. Meditation has been a huge part of my life for a while now. It's made such a huge difference in my life and I 100% believe every single person can benefit from it. Here's a guide by @takezopure that can set you on the right path: (aff)
